Safety Risk Management

A repeatable process to understand the system, identify hazards, assess risk, design controls, and verify that residual risk is acceptable before implementation.

Step 1

Describe the system

Purpose, environment, processes, people, equipment, facilities, automation, and interfaces.

Step 2

Identify hazards

Operational reports, workshops, flight data, inspections, manufacturer information, and change reviews.

Step 3

Assess risk

Separate hazards from consequences and evaluate severity, likelihood, exposure, and uncertainty.

Step 4

Control and accept

Assign controls, owners, verification, residual risk, authorized acceptance, and interface notices.

Application to UAS and AAM

For UAS and AAM, this component should account for command and control, automation, energy systems, vertiports, UTM services, cybersecurity, public exposure, maintenance, human factors, and emergency interfaces.
